The search for the next dean of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPPS) is under way, with the appointment of a search committee headed by Michael Glick, dean of the School of Dental Medicine.
The search is seeking a successor to Wayne K. Anderson, who is stepping down as dean at the end of the academic year after 18 years in the position.
The search committee, appointed by Provost Charles Zukoski, includes faculty members and a student from School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, as well as faculty from other UB units that collaborate with SPPS and a representative from Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
In addition to Glick, other members of the search committee are Edward Bednarczyk, associate professor and chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice, SPPS; Alice Ceacareanu, assistant professor of pharmacy practice; Lorraine Collins, professor of community health and health behavior, and associate dean for research, School of Public Health and Health Professions; Katharina Dittmar de la Cruz, associate professor of biological sciences, College of Arts and Sciences; Liesl Folks, dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences; Pamela Hershberger, professor of pharmacology and therapeutics, Roswell Park Cancer Institute; Joseph L. Izzo Jr., professor of medicine and chief of clinical pharmacology, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences; William Jusko, SUNY Distinguished Professor and chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, SPPS; Donald Mager, associate professor of pharmaceutical sciences; Davina Porock, professor and associate dean for research and scholarship, School of Nursing; and Nisha Vijay, PhD student in pharmaceutical sciences and chair of the UB student chapter of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.
UB also has hired the consulting firm of Russell Reynolds Associates to assist in the search. The principals from the firm who will work on this search are Ilene Nagel and Mirah Horowitz.
Nagel, head of the higher education practice for Russell Reynolds, has worked with UB for almost 10 years, assisting the university in senior leadership searches at the cabinet and decanal levels.
Horowitz, an associate in the firm’s corporate officers and not-for-profit sectors, was an integral part of the team that worked with UB in its search for a new provost last year.
Zukoski says the search for Anderson’s successor will proceed through the spring semester, with campus visits by finalists expected to take place late in the spring semester.
He says he hopes to have a new dean in place before the start of the 2013-14 academic year.
