“Time Mutations (Buffalo),” the second in a two-part series of collaborative exhibitions of new work by artists at UB and the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, will open with a reception from 5-7 p.m. Jan. 24 in the UB Art Gallery in the Center for the Arts, North Campus.
The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, will be on view through May 4.
The exhibition explores the concepts, challenges and potentials of the “broken timeline”—the linear and apportioned perception of time that electronic communications, digital editing and global travel continually dismantle. Uneasy navigation of technologically mediated time, in which the subject feels adrift between the shores of absolute and relative space-time, is particularly germane to an interaction between institutions separated by language, nationality and time zones, but connected by a deep historical investment in experimental media practice.
Participating artists—from UB’s departments of Media Study, Architecture and Visual Studies, and the Media Art & Design Program at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar—include Anna Alenso, Kim Beom, Katarina Boemig, Matthias Breuer, Laura Curry, Olivier Delrieu-Schulze, Sofia Dona, Jordan Geiger, Carrie Kaser, Jacob Kassay, Adam Laskowitz, Cayden Mak, Tommy Neuwirth, Stephen Nolan, Angelica Piedrahita, Scott Ries, Stephanie Rothenberg, Anna Scime/Neil Terry/Brian Clark, Tim Scaffidi, Gabriel Shalom and Mark Shepard.
The exhibition is curated by Liz Flyntz of UB and Max Neupert of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
Support for this exhibition has been provided by the UB Art Galleries; Graduate Student Association; Media Study GSA; Visual Studies GSA; Architecture GSA; the departments of Media Study, Architecture and Visual Studies; and the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
