Startup graduates from incubator ahead of schedule

KYNTEC Corporation, a Buffalo-based manufacturer of kinetic energy management devices, graduated from the UB Technology Incubator after seven months of rapid growth.

A manufacturer of devices that include shock absorbers and shock mounts, KYNTEC is the 88th company to graduate from incubator — an achievement that typically takes at least three years.

After moving to the incubator in May 2013, KYNTEC secured several multi-year domestic and international contract, and outgrew its allotted space. It now resides in a 27,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Cheektowaga.

The firm’s success brings well-paying, manufacturing and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) jobs to Western New York.

“Most of our companies are started by scientists and technologists who have scientific knowledge, but not the business know-how,” says Kimberly Kohl, business manager in the UB Office of Science, Technology Transfer and Economic Outreach (STOR) and UB Incubation Services. “We help companies with the management side of their business and provide them with a safe place to grow.”

The UB Technology Incubator is a small business hub that provides startup companies with access to office and lab space, and equipment. It also offers management expertise in marketing, sales, accounting and securing funding.

Incubator graduates produce and develop technologies that include synthetic intelligence, lasers, pharmaceuticals and others.

The UB Technology Incubator houses 12 companies at Baird Research Park.
