In anticipation of severe weather affecting travel along the Northeast coast, UB reopened residence halls on Friday, allowing students who live in areas that were to be affected by severe weather to return to campus early from winter break at no additional charge.

Residence halls previously were to reopen on Jan. 24, the day before the start of the spring semester.

UB houses 5,200 students in residence halls and another 2,300 in apartment-style housing on campus.

“The safety of our students is our primary concern,” said Andrea Costantino, director of campus living. “Our goal was to accommodate those students and their families who were impacted by a sudden change in travel plans due to severe weather conditions.”

UB continued to run its UB Express Bus, which offers express transportation to the North Campus from New York City, Albany, Syracuse and Binghamton during breaks for UB students, faculty, staff and their friends and families.

Campus Living staff were available throughout the weekend to help make the transition as comfortable and convenient as possible for students and their families.
