Several UB graduate and professional degree programs have been cited as among the nation’s best by U.S. News & World Report in its annual ranking of “America’s Best Graduate Schools” released today.

In the new rankings, the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is rated among the top graduate school medicine programs in two categories: research (67) and primary care (77).

The School of Management is again ranked among the top business schools, climbing eight spots from last year to land at 73. The School of Law is also rated among the nation’s top law schools (106).

U.S. News also cited master’s and doctoral degrees offered by the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences among the most highly rated in the country for the ninth straight year (67). The graduate degrees are offered in all major fields of engineering.

The Doctor of Nursing Practice Program (DNP) in the School of Nursing was rated as one of the nation’s best (66). The Master’s in Nursing Leadership and Health Care Systems Program in the nursing school was also top-rated (97).

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is ranked among the top programs in the country (22) and the School of Public Health and Health Professions also remains top-rated (31). In addition, the School of Social Work was highly ranked by U.S. News (27).

The magazine again named doctoral and master’s degree programs at the Graduate School of Education among the best in the country (80).

In addition to the annual rankings of graduate programs in business, education, engineering, law, medicine and nursing, U.S. News announced that, for the first time in four years, the magazine also has ranked graduate programs in the fields of economics, English, history, library and information science, political science, psychology and sociology.

These rankings, based solely on academic experts’ ratings, were last updated in 2013.

Among these programs, the online MS degree in information and library science offered by the Graduate School of Education was top-rated by U.S. News (22).

In addition, UB’s PhD program in English was ranked among the best in the nation (42). The PhD program in clinical psychology (75) also was top-rated by the magazine.

The U.S. News graduate school rankings are based on surveys of administrators at more than 1,970 programs and more than 16,500 academics and professionals conducted during the fall of 2016 and early 2017.

The Best Graduate Schools rankings in business, education, engineering, law, medicine and nursing are based on two types of data: expert opinions about program excellence and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school’s faculty, research and students.
