More than 20 faculty members, administrators, alumni and students from the Graduate School of Education will present their research at the annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), being held April 27 through May 1 in San Antonio.

The conference’s research theme this year is “Knowledge to Action: Achieving the Promise of Equal Educational Opportunity.”

“American Educational Research Association is the largest and most prestigious organization of educational researchers in the world,” says Jaekyung Lee, professor and dean of the Graduate School of Education, who will be among the UB representatives giving presentations.

“I am proud of GSE faculty, students and alumni who are very active in presenting and disseminating their educational research findings at the AERA annual meeting.”

Lee will speak on “Korean vs. American Ways of ‘No Child Left Behind’: A Comparative Study of Accountability Policy Impact on Educational Inequalities and Achievement Gaps.” He also will present on “Issues with the Design and Implementation of Test-Based Accountability Policies.”

Lee joins a host of GSE administrators, professors, students and alumni signed up to give presentations. Among the UB presenters are:

  • Rachel Fix Dominguez, a student in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy; Kristin N. Cipollone, an ELP alumna; and Lois Weis, SUNY Distinguished Professor, who will present “For My Family, for My People”: Altruism, Science Identity, and Protective Spaces.”
  • Ekaterina S. Strekalova-Hughes, an alumna of the Department of Learning and Instruction, and X. Christine Wang, associate professor in the department, will present “Image of Refugees in Children’s Literature: A Content Analysis” and “‘I Don’t Want Sad Stories!’ Refugee Families’ Storytelling with Young Children.”
  • Corinne M. Eggleston, an alumna of the Department of Learning and Instruction, will present “Print and e-book Shared Reading: A Comparison of Maternal Language Use When Reading to Infants.”

AERA, a national research society founded in 1916, strives to advance knowledge about education, encourages scholarly inquiry related to education, and promotes the use of research to improve education and serve the public good.
