Gregory Homish, associate professor and interim chair of the Department of Community Health and Health Behavior, School of Public Health and Health Professions, has been named a member of the Social Sciences and Population Studies B Study Section of the National Institutes of Health Center for Scientific Review.

The Social Sciences and Population Studies Study Section “reviews social, behavioral and economic applications focused on health and well-being across the life course, health disparities, demographic processes, and economic and policy influences on health.”

“The NIH review process is a critical element in helping to identify significant and innovative research that can help improve health outcomes,” Homish says. “I am honored to have been selected to serve as a standing member of the Social Sciences and Population Studies Study Section.”

Homish will serve on the study section for a four-year term, beginning July 1 and continuing through June 30, 2023.

Homish is a psychiatric epidemiologist trained in substance use, mental health and advanced statistical and research methodology. He also holds appointments at UB’s Clinical and Research Institute on Addictions, and the departments of Family Medicine and Pediatrics. He is a consulting editor for the journal Psychology of Addictive Behaviors and serves as a reviewer for numerous other journals and textbooks.

Homish is principal investigator on a five-year project funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse that examines social and environmental influences on substance use in reserve soldiers and their spouses.
