When members of the UB community sit down for a rousing game of Monopoly this holiday season, they won’t be fighting over the car, the dog or the top hat. They’ll be vying for Victor. Victor E. Bull.
That’s because UB’s beloved mascot is now a token in the new Buffalo edition of the classic board game.
Victor is among the iconic Buffalo landmarks and businesses featured in a new, limited-edition Monopoly game that was launched earlier this week by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and Oishei Children’s Hospital to benefit the Roswell Park Oishei Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Program for pediatric cancer patients. The program receives 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the game.
“I’m sure the game will be a very popular holiday gift and collector’s item for people all over Western New York,” says John DellaContrada, vice president for university communications. “When they’re moving Victor E. Bull around the board, it will be an enjoyable reminder of UB’s deep commitment to the region.”
Each year, Hasbro, the company that manufactures Monopoly, selects a limited number of custom games to produce, and this year Buffalo made the list. In addition to UB, tokens represent the Ride for Roswell (bike), Tops Friendly Markets (truck), Cooley Group (chicken wing), John W. Danforth Company (snow shovel) and West Herr Auto Group (car).
Western New York businesses and landmarks fill the properties on the board that are normally based on streets in Atlantic City, N.J., with the Sabres and Bills occupying the coved Boardwalk and Park Place spots.
The First Edition City of Buffalo Monopoly game can be purchased for $50 exclusively at participating Tops locations while supplies last.
