Christopher Delello has been named associate vice president for human resources, UB Vice President for Finance and Administration Laura Hubbard announced last week.

Delello most recently served as chief human resources officer at the University of Connecticut, where he provided overall strategic human resources vision and leadership for the university and all of its academic campuses.

Prior to joining the University of Connecticut, Delello served as director of benefits, compensation, and HRIS for Columbus McKinnon Corporation. He was also an executive consultant to Hartford Health care and served as vice president for human resources for The Yankee Candle Company.

Delello will join UB Oct. 1.

Hubbard called Delello “a thoughtful and strategic executive human resources leader with experience in higher education, private corporations, and health care settings.”

She added: “In this important role, Delello is responsible for leading, developing and managing a strategic and comprehensive human resources program in support of the university’s mission and Top 25 ambition.”

Delello will work closely with colleagues across the university, surrounding communities, and New York State to develop a vision to promote organizational excellence through the identification, recruitment, and development of diverse talent, Hubbard added.

“These are key initiatives that are vital to the continued success of the University at Buffalo,” she says.

“The University at Buffalo is renowned for its focus on the success of its students, faculty, staff, and administrators and the communities in which they live, learn and work,” Delello said. “I am honored to lead Human Resources and work with you all at such an exciting time for UB. I look forward to exploring and collaborating on ways to evolve the talent acquisition and employment experience, to provide resource stewardship, and to expand UB’s culture of well-being and belonging.”

Delello has an MBA from the University of Connecticut and a bachelor’s degree in industrial and labor relations from LeMoyne College. He is a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist by The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

As associate vice president for human resources, Delello will oversee employee benefits services; payroll; compensation and classification; employee relations; organizational development and effectiveness; wellness and work life balance; and employee assistance programs.

He succeeds Mark Coldren, who retired from UB at the end of last year.
