“At a time when many institutions of higher education are struggling with enrollment, due in part to a shrinking pool of traditional college-age and transfer students, UB has continued to attract and enroll high-quality students from a range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. ”

This fall, UB again met its enrollment goal of enrolling more than 30,000 students.

A total of 30,380 students are studying at UB, New York’s flagship university, for the 2023-24 academic year. It marks the fifth consecutive year that UB’s enrollment has topped 30,000 students.

This figure includes 19,118 undergraduates, of which 4,197 are first-year students, and 11,262 graduate and professional school students spread over UB’s North, South and Downtown campuses.

Total enrollment rises to 31,880 when the 1,500 students enrolled in UB’s Singapore Institute of Management are included.

UB’s ongoing high enrollment aligns with the objectives set forth by President Satish K. Tripathi. In 2015, he pledged to raise the academic profile of incoming students, broaden the diversity among the student body and grow enrollment by 2,000 students.

“I am proud to report that the university continues to deliver on all of the president’s enrollment goals that were envisioned in 2015,” says Lee Melvin, vice provost for enrollment management.

“At a time when many institutions of higher education are struggling with enrollment, due in part to a shrinking pool of traditional college-age and transfer students, UB has continued to attract and enroll high-quality students from a range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds,” Melvin adds.

The University Honors College also set a historic enrollment record this year, with 594 high-achieving first-year students accepted this fall.

Students in the 2023-24 class, including transfers, represent 40 states and 100 countries. Approximately, 7,000 students are living in residence halls on the North and South campuses.
