If you happened to be driving along Flint Road after dark earlier this month, you might have seen the GRoW Home lit in a rather spectacular fashion. Artist/researcher Meghan Holtan explains: “This video installation is the result of mentorship from UB Distinguished Visiting Scholar Rosy Simas and ideas from two classes: Race, Empire and Technology in the geography department and Residential Weatherization in the architecture department. The art engages with the idea of how energy efficiency is quantified and valued, and what audiences benefit from current framings. The project allowed me to intertwine my creative practice as a circus artist with my doctoral research in urban and regional planning. It was also fun to make art with my lab mates Sara Koushan, Briana Egan and Allison Gomez.” Photo: Meredith Forrest Kulwicki
