More than 200 students from across New York State took part in the Rx for Success program. Keynote speaker Robert Gore, Jacobs School alumnus, clinical assistant professor at SUNY Downstate and founder of Kings Against Violence Initiative in Brooklyn, told students: “All of you represent hope and possibility.”

The free program included breakfast, lunch, hands-on workshops and tours. Here, students check out the Jacobs School’s Gross Anatomy Lab with its display of informative skeletons.

Touring the many levels of the Jacobs School building — from the lab facilities to the wide-open spaces of the atrium — was a highlight for the students.

Shanna Crump-Owens, director of UB’s Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP), tells students that applying to medical school “is a journey.” She reminded students of the many ways that CSTEP can assist, including helping students pay for MCAT prep courses.
