“While we support an individual’s choice to smoke, the harmful nature of cigarette smoking or using tobacco products on one’s health is contradictory to the university’s mission to improve the genuine health of the whole campus community.”

Wellness tip:
Eating Enough Fiber is Crucial For Good Health
- It aids digestion, prevents constipation and decreases cholesterol and blood sugar.
- Eat whole grain cereals and raw vegetables and fruits when possible.
- Add dry beans to soups, stews and salads.
UB employees can reduce stress and develop relaxation skills while improving flexibility and strengthening core muscles by participating in the yoga program offered by Wellness & Work Life/Balance.
The six-week course will be taught by Jen Russo and Quinn Caya, founders of Yoga Therapeutics of Buffalo.
Classes will be held on Thursdays, beginning Sept. 25 and running through Oct. 30, on both the North and South campuses. North Campus classes will be held from 5-5:30 p.m. in the Locked Lounge, Fargo 6, Ellicott Complex; South Campus classes will be held from noon to 12:50 p.m. in 105 Harriman Hall.
All skill and experience levels are welcome. The fee is $54.
CDS stops tobacco sales
Campus Dining & Shops (CDS) is no longer selling tobacco products in the retail outlets it operates on the North and South campuses.
Cigarettes and other tobacco products are no longer being sold at The Elli in the Ellicott Complex, at Teddy’s in the Governors Complex, at the Main Street Store in Goodyear Hall and at Campus Tees in the Student Union.
“While we support an individual’s choice to smoke, the harmful nature of cigarette smoking or using tobacco products on one’s health is contradictory to the university’s mission to improve the genuine health of the whole campus community,” says Jeff Brady, interim executive director of CDS.
UB became totally smoke free in August 1994. Smoking is strictly prohibited in all university-owned and operated buildings and stadiums, at outdoor events, and in all UB-owned and -operated vehicles.
Chair massages available
A pilot program aimed at reducing stress in the workplace by offering therapeutic chair massages to UB faculty and staff is now under way.
The massages are available by appointment from 4-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in 223 Student Union, North Campus. Shelley Hain, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Dance and certified massage therapist, will perform neck and shoulder massages for $1 a minute, with a minimum of 10 minutes. Fees are paid at the time of the service.
The program, which may extend its hours and locations if there is enough interest, is sponsored by Wellness and Work/Life Balance, University Human Resources, in cooperation with Wellness Education Services.
For more information or to make an appointment, call 645-2837 and identify yourself as a faculty or staff member.
