CONNECT links staff

  • Wellness tip:

Listen to your body while exercising

    • You should always be able to catch your breath and speak comfortably while exercising.
    • You should sense effort while exercising, but never persistent pain.
    • Always remember to warm up and cool down when exercising.

UB professional staff members looking to contact colleagues regarding work issues have access to the Professional Staff Senate’s email discussion list, or CONNECT, an initiative of the PSS’ Quality of Work Life Committee.

According to Pamela Rose, chair of the Quality of Work Life Committee and list owner, CONNECT allows professional staff members to communicate with each other directly, which helps improve their quality of work life by offering a forum in which to find practical information. For example, staff can post to the list to find resources, information and advice from others in similar positions; share information about job duties and concerns; identify common areas of interest; learn about opportunities for growth and development; and discuss common problems in the workplace.

While CONNECT is used to alert professional staff to upcoming events and activities, it is an unmoderated list and different from those administered by the PSS office, notes Rose, Web services and library promotion coordinator for the Health Sciences Library.

Newly hired professional staff members are added automatically to CONNECT, but they may remove themselves at any time. Instructions for removal from the list are automatically appended to every message.

To send a message, use the address professionalstaffconnect-list@listserv.buffalo.edu or visit the PSS Web site to access a direct link to the PSS discussion list.

Any questions should be directed to Rose at 829-3900, ext 129, or at pmrose@buffalo.edu.

Alternatives offered to canceling class

The Division of Student Affairs offers a wide range of workshops and presentations on topics relevant to UB students that faculty members can schedule in lieu of canceling a class session.

The workshops are 50-90 minutes and can be adapted to fit faculty members’ requirements. Two weeks’ notice is requested.

Topics range from personal safety, leadership and academic study skills to career services, diversity and health and wellness.

Visit the “Don't Cancel Class” Workshops website for specific topics and contact information.
