A True Blue Weekend at UB
UB for the first time will hold its three traditional fall semester events during the same “True Blue Weekend” Oct. 16-19.
An estimated 30,000 people are expected on campus for Homecoming, including the UB Bulls football game against Army; Family Weekend; and Fall Open House in what may be one of the biggest weekends ever at UB.
Open House, which will take place on Saturday, offers prospective students an opportunity to learn all about UB and experience the university during Homecoming, one of the most traditional of all college events. Prospective students can meet UB faculty and students; find out about academic offerings, research opportunities and scholarship programs; tour the campus; visit the residence halls; and even attend a football game.
True Blue Weekend activities officially kick off today with a Distinguished Speaker Series lecture by Khaled Hosseini, author of “The Kite Runner,” this year’s UB Reads selection. Hosseini will speak at 8 p.m. in Alumni Arena, North Campus.
Tomorrow is True Blue Spirit Day and faculty, staff, students, alumni and visitors are encouraged to show their pride by wearing UB apparel. Prizes will be awarded to anyone wearing UB blue or a university logo who is spotted on campus by the True Blue Prize Patrol.
Homecoming-related events actually began as early as Monday with a series of Sprit Week activities sponsored by the undergraduate Student Association. The Homecoming Carnival will be held tomorrow evening, as well as the bonfire and fireworks.
Other events will include the UB Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, the Pillars Society Luncheon recognizing the UB Class of 1958, the third annual Dodgebull tournament, the Alumni Association’s annual pregame party, the selection of UB homecoming king and queen, and Saturday’s UB Bulls vs. Army football game.
Family Weekend events reunite families and students with activities designed to help families experience college life at UB. This year's schedule includes an evening of comedy, an afternoon of music, a jazz coffeehouse, family brunch and pre-game tent party, as well as the UB Bulls football game.
