It’s official: UB’s historic 2008 football season will culminate on Jan. 3 with a date with Big East opponent the University of Connecticut in the International Bowl in Toronto.

The Bulls, who won the Mid American Conference Championship Friday night with a convincing, 42-24, win over previously undefeated and 12th ranked Ball State, will meet the UConn Huskies in the Rogers Centre in UB’s first bowl appearance.

UConn finished the 2008 regular season with a 7-5 record and features the nation’s top rusher in terms of total yards and yards per game in junior Donald Brown.

Kickoff is at noon. The game will be televised on ESPN2.

Tickets for the International Bowl are $40 for sideline seats and will go on sale on Wednesday, Dec. 10. Click here for more information. The Division of Athletics is finalizing travel packages, and more information will be announced when it becomes available.

Many UB fans were hoping the Bulls would play in the International Bowl in Toronto, a short, 90-minute drive from Western New York that should draw thousands of hometown football fans.

Although the bid to the International Bowl is the first the Bulls have accepted in the university’s 94 years of collegiate football, it is the second invitation extended to the team. The 1958 Bulls were invited to play in the Tangerine Bowl against Florida State, but turned down the bid when it was learned that UB’s two African-American players would not be allowed to compete.
