Word of Mouth

If you could take any class at UB, what would it be?

Send your response to ub-word-of-mouth@buffalo.edu and we’ll publish the responses we receive in the next online UB Reporter.

  • An art history class. I think learning about the history of the world through art would be fascinating. I am also interested in the structure of government and the oversight of our civil rights and freedoms, so a course in constitutional law might be interesting.

  • English. Hemingway, Faulkner, or any 20th century or more contemporary literature course. I loved my classes in Clemens with Neil Schmitz.

  • How can you name only one class? There are so many. However, right now I am particularly interested in economics.

Readers weigh in on last week’s question.

How do you cope with a cold, gloomy winter day in Buffalo?

I exercise in the morning for 45 minutes to an hour to get the blood circulating, dress in layers to keep the body warm and play indoor fetch with my crazy terrier. Also, shoveling has become enjoyable, especially in the quiet of early morning or in the middle of a blizzard surrounded by an incredible white world.

The main reason people get gloomy is lack of vitamin D. In the summer, we get more sunlight; sunlight’s UV-B radiation strikes our skin and makes the vitamin D, and we cheer up. So I recommend that people take 2,000 units of vitamin D a day, especially during the wintertime. It works for many people.
