Though they have good food in several categories, Brennan’s (4401 Transit Road, Williamsville) is all about atmosphere—a bit Irish, a bit big-city U.S. and a bit hometown Buffalo. It’s busy and informal, and a great place to relax and let go.

Shango (3260 Main St., Buffalo), within walking distance from my office on the South Campus. After a long week, it’s nice to treat yourself to their fantastic food and beverage selection.

Mother’s on Virginia Place in Buffalo’s Allentown section. It is warm, welcoming and fun, and Sam the bartender is terminally nice.
