There are two national holidays in February. If you could create another holiday, what would it be called?

  • It would be in early August, with the sole purpose of giving everyone a day off in the middle of summer. Call it whatever you want.

  • I’d love a Winter Carnival Day. Certainly in Buffalo it would be a great way to celebrate what I think is a great time of year.

  • National Stay Home Day. Everyone I know wishes they could have one day where they didn’t have to go anywhere at all—just a day to get things done or even just relax. It’s even a green holiday since you lessen your carbon footprint by not driving!

Where’s the best fish fry in Western New York

If it is during Lent, just about everywhere! Nearly every church, American Legion and VFW post sells fish fries, often “to go” during Lent. But if you want to go to a restaurant/pub, try Jack’s Place on Flint at Millersport, near the North Campus.

I think the best fish fry in Western New York can be found at Jades Restaurant, 4459 Broadway, Depew. It is a small restaurant, but the fish has the best flavor and with the sides that are included, it is a huge meal.

Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament parish (French Road at George Urban Boulevard, Depew) makes a great fish fry! And if fish isn’t your thing, they have shrimp dinners as well.
