  • Downtown to see the medical campus where I work; weather permitting, on a walking tour of Buffalo with the architectural preservation group Buffalo Tours; out to eat at the last restaurant featured in Artvoice. And Niagara Falls, if the visitor is truly a newbie.

  • I like to take visitors to Ellicottville, whether it is ski season or not. The town has much to offer in food, shopping, entertainment and outdoor activities.

  • I take out-of-town visitors to the Erie Canal Harbor/Erie Basin Marina area. You have the option of seeing a game or concert at the ball park or arena, you can stroll along the harbor, have a party on a boat at the dock, sit in the sun on the new beach, or head up to LaSalle Park.

Readers weigh in on last week’s question.

What is your favorite locally produced food or beverage?

Sponge candy, especially in dark chocolate, from any of Western New York’s great chocolatiers; Buffalo Chips from the Quaker Bonnet (69 Chenango St., Buffalo); a turtle sundae at Antoinette’s Sweets (Main and Union, West Seneca); and my wife Marie adds Ted’s (Sahlens) hot dogs!
