Kimball leads in health promotion

Published: April 1, 2009

Kimball Hall is leading after the first week of the “eat well. live well. challenge” between Crofts Hall, Kimball Tower and the Educational Opportunity Center.

The goal of the “eat well. live well. challenge,” organized by Wegmans and sponsored by University Human Resources, is to encourage individuals to move more and increase the amount of fruits and vegetables they consume. Participants use pedometers to count and record the number of steps they take each day and tally the number of cups of fruits and vegetables— they are encouraged to “strive for five”—they eat each day.

Participants record the data online.

After the first week, Kimball participants are leading in both the average number of cups of fruits and vegetables they have eaten each day—4.83 cups—and the average number of steps taken each day—9,307.8 steps.

Crofts participants have taken an average of 7,895.92 steps and eaten 4.36 cups of fruits and vegetables.

The figures for EOC participants are 7,249.61 steps and 4.191 cups.

The total steps taken so far by all participants in the challenge are 16,877,862—an average of 8,241. The total cups of fruits and vegetables consumed by all competitors are 9,198.8—an average 4.5 cups per person.
