UB is Brush Up Buffalo sponsor
UB has become a key sponsor for Brush Up Buffalo 2009, offering $8,000 in funding, on-site staging and logistical support.
The not-for-profit, all-volunteer organization aimed at revitalizing Buffalo neighborhoods announced at a kickoff event last week on the UB South Campus that it will paint 10 to 15 low-income homes in the University District during its annual event, which will take place June 20.
“We care about the well-being of residents who live near the South Campus,” said Vincent Clark, UB director of community relations. “Brush Up Buffalo’s volunteers have consistently provided City of Buffalo neighborhoods a major boost. By partnering with them, UB is reaching others who need help the most—one house at a time.”
Targeted streets for Brush Up Buffalo 2009 include Winspear, Highgate, Lisbon, Comstock and Shirley.
More than 235 homes have been painted in Buffalo since Brush Up Buffalo’s inception in 1996. This year marks the organization’s 13th event. Last year, in approximately five hours, more than 600 volunteers painted 15 homes in the Lovejoy neighborhood, near the reconstruction of Buffalo Public School 43, Lovejoy Discovery School.

A UB staff member for 23 years, he also has held managerial roles in Campus Catering, Concessions and Conference Center Operations.
Friedman, who holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UB, has been active in alumni relations for many years, having served on the board of directors of the UB Alumni Association for 14 years.
In his professional capacity in alumni relations, he has worked extensively with the board of directors in developing its next strategic plan, created a new Friends Membership for the Alumni Association, and has successfully developed new partnerships with both on-campus and off-campus constituencies.
Shore promoted to senior assistant dean
Cynthia M. Shore has been promoted to senior assistant dean and director of external relations for the School of Management.
As assistant dean of corporate and community relations for the past three years, Shore played a key role in initiating and supporting high-visibility outreach activities, making the School of Management a leader in UB’s mission of civic engagement.
In her new position, she will take on a significantly broader and more integrative role, working collaboratively and strategically with School of Management faculty and staff. She will be charged with maximizing the positive impact of external relationships on the School of Management’s reputation, resources and academic programming through strategic, innovative and coordinated interaction with external constituents.
She also will serve as liaison to UB’s external relations initiatives, in order to achieve synergies that will best serve the mutual interests of the School of Management and UB.
Previously, Shore served for three years as director of graduate student recruitment services for UB, and for six years prior to that she was assistant dean and director of the School of Management’s Career Resource Center.
Shore holds a bachelor’s degree in business and an MBA from the School of Management and is a graduate of Leadership Buffalo’s Class of 2008.
