The Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge in the Town of Alabama in Genesee County is by far my favorite one-tank getaway—it’s a jewel for outdoor and wildlife enthusiasts. I often go birding or hiking there with friends, and I love taking my daughters there at night to call for owls.

Dog Hollow State Forest in Cortland County. It’s secluded, silent and has wonderful streams. Take the dog, poop bags, good walking shoes, water and a cold beer. Also, Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora. My dog, Larry, loves it.
