  • Construction moves bus stops

Some bus stops on the North and South campuses will not be available to UB Stampede buses and shuttles at various times this summer due to construction projects.

The Main Circle bus shelter on the South Campus adjacent to the NFTA Metro station will not be accessible through July 5. Buses and shuttles will pick up passengers at the intersection of Hayes and Goodyear roads.

The bus stop in Lee Loop on the North Campus will not be accessible through Aug. 14. The stop has been moved temporarily to Hamilton Loop, near Ketter Hall.

  • UB to hold entertainment conference in LA

UB is holding the first UB Coast to Coast Entertainment and Media Conference June 27-28 in Los Angeles.

Created specifically for UB alumni, students and friends of UB, but also open to the general public, UBC2C will feature workshops in acting, writing, directing, music production, independent film production and marketing, and entertainment business marketing. Workshops will be taught by UB industry alums Alan Zweibel, Rob Lieberman, Bobby Collins, Ted Kryczko, Linda Phillips Palo and Robert Lamoreaux, as well as Christine La Monte and Rosalind Jarrett, who are organizing the event. The conference will take place at Bergamot Station, as well as various off-site studio locations.

Proceeds from the event’s registration fees are being used to bring UB students to Los Angeles to participate.

A generous donation by an anonymous UB alumnus is funding travel and attendance at the workshops for many of the 42 UB students and recent graduates who plan to participate.

UBC2C is the first of a series of annual conferences; plans for the next conference, which will take place in New York City in 2010 and will revolve around the television industry, will be announced shortly.

  • Legacy scholarship renamed for Evans

A scholarship established by the UB Alumni Association in 2007 has been renamed in honor of Willie R. Evans, Ed.B. ’60, a member of the historic 1958 UB Bulls football team. The team turned down an invitation to appear in the Tangerine Bowl because Evans and another black teammate were not allowed to play alongside white players.

The Willie R. Evans UB Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship assists currently enrolled UB students who are children or grandchildren of UB alumni who contribute to the growth and enrichment of the university through active membership and participation in the Alumni Association. Applications for the scholarship may be found by clicking here.

Evans’ contributions to UB go well beyond the athletic field. He has been involved with the UB Alumni Association since 1972, serving in a number of capacities, including board president in 1981-82. He remains on the board today as a special advisor.

He also is a key volunteer for UB’s government relations office, advocating for UB 2020. He served as interim associate vice president for alumni relations from May-December 2008 and was also a member of the search committee that selected both President John B. Simpson and Athletic Director Warde Manuel.

Evans is a longtime member of the Blue and White Club, which provides support to UB athletics, and is a past recipient of the alumni association’s Distinguished Alumni Award and Community Leadership Medal.
