  • Student comprehensive fee to increase

    The comprehensive student fee will increase by $39.25 per semester for full-time undergraduate students—rising to $926.75 for the upcoming fall semester, Provost Satish K. Tripathi and Dennis Black, vice president for student affairs, have announced.

    The fee will increase $30.75 per semester for full-time graduate and professional students, bringing it to $703.25 for the semester.

    Part-time students will be billed on a pro-rated per credit hour basis.

    Included in the comprehensive fee:

    • A technology increase of $15 per semester to cover some of the increased costs for the continuing acquisition of necessary electronic materials in the University Libraries, as well as inflation for information technology contractual increases for campus-wide software and hardware licenses.

    • A transportation increase of $5.50 per semester to support state-mandated negotiated salary and benefits not provided for in the university’s base budget, increased costs to the current bus contract, fuel and parking lot maintenance.

    • An intercollegiate athletics increase of $8.50 per semester (undergraduate only) to support required transportation increases due to rapidly rising costs for team travel, as well as compliance with Title IX requirements.

    • A campus life increase of $3.50 per semester to support state-mandated negotiated salary and benefit increases not provided for in the university’s base budget and other contractual increases.

    • A health services increase of $6.75 per semester to support state-mandated negotiated salary and benefit increases not provided for in the university’s base budget.

  • CFA offers Technical Theater Program

    The Center for the Arts will present a Technical Theater Program designed for high school students, college students and adults from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 12-14 in the CFA, North Campus.

    The Technical Theater Program offers an overview of the basic technical skills required in the world of professional theater. The program will consist of daily courses covering basic technical theater topics-an introduction to technical theater, lighting and sound. Workshops are taught by UB staff, faculty and other area professionals.

    In "Introduction to Technical Theater," students will be introduced to basic lighting, sound, staging concepts and terms. Students also will learn about equipment and how it is put into practice in any size theater.

    During the "Technical Theater Lighting" sessions, students will learn basic lighting principles and design, instrument types, hanging, focusing, board operation and troubleshooting. Students will see how lighting is used to invoke emotion and create the performance environment.

    In "Technical Theater Sound," students will receive instruction and hands-on experience with basic sound principles and design, live sound equipment, signal distribution, mixing techniques, recording and troubleshooting.

    The cost of the three-day program is $165, which includes instruction and all classroom materials and lunches. A $50, nonrefundable fee is required at time of registration. The last day to register is July 31.
