  • Gender Institute to hold reception

All members of the UB faculty and administration interested in scholarship on women and gender are invited to attend a reception from 4-6 p.m. Sept. 11 in the UB Art Gallery in the Center for the Arts, North Campus.

The reception, sponsored by the Institute for Research and Education on Women and Gender, offers a chance for faculty to meet colleagues from across the campuses to develop connections for interdisciplinary research and mentoring.

Gender Institute co-directors Sharmistha Bagchi-Sen, professor of geography, and Rosemary Dziak, professor of oral biology, will introduce Susan Udin, professor of physiology and biophysics and convener of the Association of Women Full Professors, and Lucinda Finley, professor of law and vice provost for faculty affairs.

Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

  • Construction closes highway ramps

Construction work on a Millersport Highway bridge could force UB employees who travel to and from the North Campus via Millersport Highway to take a new route for a few weeks.

The ramps from Millersport north to the Audubon Parkway and from the parkway east to Millersport north will be closed from 7 a.m. Sept. 14 to 5 p.m. Oct. 2 to allow workers to replace bridge expansion joints. Only the ramps will be closed during the construction project; Millersport Highway will remain open.

Access to campus from Flint, Coventry and Rensch roads will not be affected.

  • Outdoor gear garage sale planned

The first Outdoor Pursuits “used gear sale” will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 20 in the basement of Clark Hall, South Campus. The sale is open to all UB faculty, staff and students.

Proceeds will benefit UB’s Outdoor Adventure Club and the UB Outdoor Gear Rental Shop, 10 Clark Hall.

Outdoor Pursuits also is accepting donations of camping or backpacking gear, sleeping bags, tents, stoves or paddling gear, as well as skis, skates, bikes and tennis rackets.

Donations may be dropped off at the Pro Shop in Alumni Arena, North Campus, or in 10 Clark Hall from 3-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Those who cannot drop off their donations can contact Russ Crispell, director for outdoor pursuits, at crispell@buffalo.edu to arrange for an on-campus pickup.

Outdoor Pursuits, part of Recreation and Intramural Services, provides students, staff, faculty, alumni and the general public with opportunities to experience all aspects of outdoor adventure.
