Football, Whoopi star in True Blue Days
From the homecoming game for the 2008 MAC Champion Buffalo Bulls to an evening with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair or Academy Award-winner Whoopi Goldberg, the lineup for True Blue Days this fall is sure to satisfy a wide range of tastes and predilections.
The series of events designed to welcome students, prospective students, alumni, families, faculty, staff, neighbors and the community at large back to school kicks off Oct. 7 with a Distinguished Speakers Series lecture by Blair, now envoy for the Middle East “Quartet.” Activities during the 10 days that follow include four traditional True Blue events: The UB Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Oct. 8, the Bulls’ football homecoming game against the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs on Oct. 10, Family Weekend from Oct. 9-11 and the fall Fall Open House for prospective students on Oct. 17.
This year, Family Weekend will include a social for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer students and their families and friends; live worship music and a guest speaker sponsored by the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship; a performance by comedian Goldberg in Alumni Arena; and a trip to Niagara Falls. A slew of free on-campus events for students and families on Oct. 10 ranges from desserts, coffee and live jazz in the Student Union to a game night featuring Guitar Hero and more.
