PSS offers tours of UB
Behind the Scenes at UB, a free tour of units and programs on the North, South and Downtown campuses sponsored by the Professional Staff Senate, will begin on Oct. 15 with a tour of WBFO 88.7 FM, UB’s National Public Radio affiliate located in Allen Hall on the South Campus.
The 40-minute presentation and tour will offer participants a chance to see the studios, record themselves if they wish and meet some on-air personalities. Three “tours” are offered: at noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.
Space is limited to the first 12 people who register for each time slot; indicate your first, second and third choice of times. Participants should arrive 10 minutes before their tour starts.
To register for the WBFO tour, email Anna Kedzierski in the PSS office at kedziers@buffalo.edu.
Other Behind the Scenes at UB tours this semester include a bus tour of the Downtown Campus on Oct. 30 with stops at the Ira. G. Ross Eye Institute, the Jacobs Executive Development Center, the Educational Opportunity Center and UB’s New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences; a tour of MCEER (Multidisciplinary Center for Earthquake Engineering Research) on Nov. 12; and the Center for the Arts on Dec. 2.
Tours are being planned during the spring at the School of Dental Medicine, the nuclear medicine facility, UB Bulls basketball and the UB Anderson Art Gallery.

Artful bras on display
Members of the UB community are invited to view “artful bras” on display in the Center for the Arts atrium and bid on their favorite to raise money for breast cancer research.
The fundraiser, sponsored by Student Academic Records and Financial Services, benefits the American Cancer Society as part of UB’s Employees Campaign for the Community.
Nearly 30 bras are on display in the CFA through Oct. 30. The bras also can be viewed online, where bids will be accepted through Oct. 30.
Grants support Canadian studies
The Canadian-American Studies Committee is seeking proposals for projects and activities that are designed to promote increased awareness and understanding of Canada and of relations between Canada and the United States for funding through its Fall 2009 Grant Competition.
Full-time faculty members and UB graduate students who have faculty sponsorship are encouraged to submit proposals for projects that have not been funded previously, that offer promise for eventually securing external funding, or that establish and strengthen collaborative ties with Canadian colleagues.
Click here to obtain an application form or call Donna Banach at 645-2299.
The deadline for applications is noon on Oct. 26.
The grants are made possible through the assistance of the Canadian government, the Canadian Studies Grant Program of the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C., and by the UB College of Arts and Sciences.
