Our favorite is the Great Pumpkin Farm (11199 Main St.) in Clarence. This is a great family-friendly, low-cost experience. Admission is free (except for special activity weekends; check the Web site for those dates) and the kids are able to participate in a wide range of activities and attractions, including a hay maze, a petting zoo, face painting, a magic show and hayrides. Amusement park rides also are set up for those who need some extra stimulation! And of course, the Pumpkin Farm is a great place to buy pumpkins. Warm apple cider and other goodies are available for purchase to keep you warm on the cooler fall days.

Becker Farms (3760 Quaker Road, Gasport). Children love the “Pumpkin Fiesta”—live music, fresh pumpkin donuts with cider, apple picking, pony rides, Hillbilly Bob’s “Pig Rock Derby” Pig Races, hayrides, bounce house, corn maze, slides and, of course, pick your favorite pumpkin! We also like going to UB Bulls football games and to the Ellicottville Fall Fest.

My favorite family fall event is picking out pumpkins and going on a hayride at Badding Brothers Farm Market (10820 Transit Road, East Amherst).
