WBFO 88.7 FM, UB’s National Public Radio affiliate, has completed one of the most successful fall membership drives in the station's 50-year history, raising more than $225,000 and exceeding its goal of $220,000.

Nearly 1,700 listeners from Western New York and Southern Ontario contributed during the seven-day, fall on-air pledge drive from Oct. 22-28.

“We are humbled and gratified by the community’s response to our call,” said Joan Wilson, director of communications and marketing and assistant general manager.

“Listeners not only supported us financially, but also answered telephones and came to the studios to help make the case for WBFO’s unique blend of noncommercial news, music and entertainment from UB. Buffalo loves this public radio station. For our part, we promise to continue to surprise and delight listeners with thought-provoking, intellectually stimulating and ever-evolving substantive content.”

WBFO’s membership now totals more than 7,000.

WBFO is Western New York’s most listened to National Public Radio (NPR) station. It reaches an audience of almost 100,000 people in Western New York and Southern Ontario through its main signal in Buffalo and through repeater stations WUBJ 88.1 FM in Jamestown and WOLN 91.3 FM in Olean.

WBFO’s news department offers comprehensive coverage of regional and world-wide news. The station also offers a depth of programming not available elsewhere in the community, including NPR/PRI news and entertainment programs, public and cultural affairs programming, and jazz and blues.
