I strongly applaud it, not only for the health benefits but also for cleanliness. Our very hard-working campus maintenance staff doesn’t have to pick up butts all over the place. They have other, more important and taxing things to do. Neatness starts at home or around one’s office or lab.

I am thrilled that UB has adopted a smoke-free policy. We work and create both inside and outside, and should have a smoke-free environment in our work and travels throughout campus. It is a joy to be able to come and go without dodging a cloud of smoke in front of the Center for the Arts. I hope that campus smokers will be inspired and supported to quit.

I am in favor of UB’s smoke-free policy. I’m not a smoker, so I don’t like it when I have to go through a cloud of smoke when entering or leaving a building. I also have an allergy to cigarette smoke, so it’s more than just an inconvenience.

Tami Beck says:
I am a smoker however, I do agree that there should not be smoking in buildings and no smoking at entrances. I have no problem walking to a parking lot. I do have a problem with the absence of ashtrays throughout the campus and the growing number of cigarette butts on the ground it really makes the campus look trashy.

I am a non-smoker. No smoking in buildings - I approve. No smoking at entrances - I approve. No smoking in the stadium - I approve. No smoking anywhere on campus - I do not approve. We should make space for the legal foibles of others, as they make space for ours.
