Mass to be offered for Greiner
A Mass of Remembrance for William R. Greiner will be offered at 8 p.m. Jan. 31 in St. Joseph University Church, 3629 Main St., adjacent to the South Campus.
All are welcome.
Greiner, UB’s 13th president, died Dec. 19 in the Cleveland Clinic due to complications from heart surgery.
A public memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Feb. 2 in the Center for the Arts, North Campus.
West to speak at King commemoration
Cornel West, noted intellectual, essayist, public speaker and social activist, will present the keynote address for UB’s 34th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Event at 8 p.m. Feb. 5 in the Mainstage Theatre in the Center for the Arts, North Campus.
The commemoration is part of the Distinguished Speakers Series.
Professor of religion and African-American studies at Princeton University, West is widely considered one of America’s most important public intellectuals. He burst onto the national scene in 1993 with his best-selling book, “Race Matters.” He has written 12 books of nonfiction for which he has won numerous awards, including the American Book Award.
Tickets are available at the Center for the Arts box office and at all Ticketmaster locations.

Candidates sought to head libraries
The committee conducting a national search for a vice provost and director for University Libraries is seeking nominations for candidates.
The search is seeking a successor to Stephen Roberts, who will retire at the end of the academic year as associate vice president and head of University Libraries.
Nominations can be submitted to Bruce McCombe, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and chair of the search committee, at cas-dean@buffalo.edu.

SOM receives gifts
The School of Management has two new gifts to the school from accounting and law alumni.
Michael Murray, BS ’75, MBA ’85, managing partner of Ernst & Young’s Buffalo office, and his wife, Catherine, have given $75,000 to name the Michael and Catherine Murray Mezzanine on the third floor of the School of Management’s Alfiero Center.
In addition, eight alumni from the School of Management and the UB Law School pledged nearly $100,000 to name a newly created space—the Ernst & Young Study Center on the second floor of the Alfiero Center.
The alumni, Lisa Filomia-Aktas, BS ’84, MBA ’85; George Brooks, JD ’86; Steven Diamond, JD ’88; Stephen Ferguson, BS ’84; Keith Feuz, BS ’93; James Frank, ’78; Gary Koster, BS ’84; John Martinkat, ’90; and Srikant Nagaraj, MBA ’91, are all employees of Ernst & Young.
Proceeds from both gifts will support the School of Management’s Department of Accounting and Law.
