UB’s chief information officer is leaving the university to take the top information technology position at the University of Florida.

Elias G. Eldayrie, who oversees campus information services and computing operations at UB, will become vice president and CIO at the University of Florida-Gainesville. His appointment is effective May 28; he plans to remain at UB until mid-May.

At Florida, Eldayrie will be responsible for providing oversight and leadership to the university’s information technology portfolio and units, as well as its IT governance committees.

“I feel very fortunate to have been a member of the UB family and to have formed so many strong relationships with our enthusiastic students, talented faculty, innovative and committed staff, and strong senior leadership, and it is with very mixed feelings that I will be leaving,” Eldayrie said. “I will always look back on my years at UB with deep affection and pride, and will always be a strong UB advocate and supporter.”

In his role as UB CIO, Eldayrie led UB senior leadership and key stakeholders in developing the first campus-wide strategic plan for information technology, aligning IT resources across UB with the academic and business needs of the university and establishing partnerships with UB senior leadership and members of key constituencies.

He also led enterprise resource planning (ERP) and the UB 2020 Service Mapping and IT Transformation initiatives. The Student Systems Transformation initiative, which began in 2006, is on time, on budget and in scope—a rarity for ERP projects.

Since joining UB in 1987, Eldayrie has served the university in a variety of administrative positions, including as assistant vice provost for enrollment management, director of the Office of Financial Aid, director of the Office of Student Accounts and assistant director/systems analyst in the Office of Student Finances and Records. He was named associate vice president for information technology in 2003 and CIO in 2007.

In addition to his administrative duties, Eldayrie is an adjunct assistant professor in the School of Management.

He has received numerous awards, including the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service, a Sallie MAE Education Institute Award, a Student Access Excellence Award, a Milton Plesur Excellence in Teaching Award and a UB Service Excellence Award.

Eldayrie serves on the board of the New York State Education and Research Network (NYSERNet), is an executive member of the Buffalo/Niagara Regional Dark Fiber Optic Network Project and serves on The Chronicle of Higher Education’s Leadership Board for CIOs, as well as on the Executive Council of SUNY CIOs.

He received a bachelor's degree in computer science and an MBA, both from UB.
