  • Volunteers needed for Senior Brunch

The offices of Student Life and Alumni Relations are seeking faculty and staff members to volunteer their time at the annual Senior Brunch on April 21.

Volunteers are needed between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. to set up, greet students, serve food and clean up for the brunch, which will be held in the Center for the Arts atrium, North Campus.

  • Prevent identity theft

UB’s Financial Literacy Program, in conjunction with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and Shred-it, the local partner of the National Association for Information Destruction, will present “Secure Your ID” Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 17 in the Special Events Parking Lot, located near UB Stadium and the Coventry Entrance to the North Campus

Members of the UB and greater Western New York community can bring up to three boxes or bags of their sensitive paper documents for free shredding and proper disposal. UB and BBB staff will be on site to provide expert advice and tips for identity theft protection.

“Identity theft continues to be the fastest-growing form of consumer fraud in the United States. Victims of identity theft are estimated to lose nearly $5,000 per incident,” said Kellie Kostek, coordinator for the UB Financial Literacy Program. “It’s a very tough price to pay when there are prevention steps to take that could avoid your exposure to this silent crime.

“Identity theft is largely a crime of access,” Kostek added. “Our goal here is to make the information less accessible and empower people to be their own first line of defense against identity theft.”
