Nostaja named senior vice president
Scott Nostaja, vice president for human resources and chief of staff to UB President John B. Simpson, has been named senior vice president and chief operations officer, effective immediately.
Nostaja will work closely with Provost Satish Tripathi, UB’s chief academic and budgetary officer.
In announcing the appointment on Monday, Simpson said the promotion recognizes the “significantly expanded role” Nostaja has undertaken on a number of key, university-wide initiatives—among them strategic planning, operational management, campus physical planning, and financial management—in addition to his ongoing duties as vice president for HR and chief of staff.
The appointment formalizes the leadership Nostaja brings to each of these key areas, Simpson added, noting that Nostaja provides guidance on the university’s financial management advisory group and campus planning board, and represents UB as campus operations manager for the SUNY Research Foundation.
During the past year, he also has been closely involved in the SUNY strategic planning effort and has helped lead many internal strategic planning efforts, including recent efforts at the School of Nursing and the School of Dental Medicine.
Beyond UB, Nostaja is active in community affairs, serving as an officer in the Buffalo 2020 Corporation and as a member of the Board of Directors of the United Way. He also has held leadership roles with national higher education organizations, such as the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources, and serves in various roles with the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.
“Since he joined the university’s senior leadership team in 2004, Scott’s leadership and vision have been vital to the university’s ongoing processes of strategic planning and institutional transformation through the UB 2020 initiative,” Simpson said. In his new positions, Nostaja “will continue to lead and guide key university strategic initiatives, as well as continuing to serve as my senior advisor on institutional issues, including long-range planning and other critical matters facing the university.
“Scott’s leadership, acumen and counsel have been indispensable to the university, and will continue to be so as we move forward in implementing the ambitious vision of institutional excellence we have articulated through UB 2020,” he said.
