UB to host Ride for Roswell

UB will host the 15th annual Ride for Roswell on June 26 to help raise funds in support of cancer research and patient treatment at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

The UB team participating in the Ride for Roswell will ride under the slogan "Partners in Progress." Members of the UB community interested in joining the UB Spirit team should register on the team’s website. UB will waive the registration fee for the first 250 riders to join the UB Spirit team, providing the rider raises a minimum of $150 in pledges. Each UB Spirit rider will receive a commemorative “Partners in Progress” T-shirt to wear during the race.

Participants in the Ride for Roswell can choose to take part in a 3-mile, 8-mile, 20-mile, 30-mile, 33-mile, 44-mile, 62.5-mile or 100-mile route, each of which begins and ends at Baird Point on the North Campus. After the ride, UB community members and friends are invited to celebrate in the UB tent at Baird Point.

Last year, 6,392 cyclists raised a record $2.3 million for cancer research and patient care, with the 173 riders on the UB team raising $88,000—the second-largest amount among the 535 teams participating.

Summer jobs sought for Buffalo youth

UB is supporting the City of Buffalo’s Summer Youth Employment Program and is looking for departments interested in employing youth for six weeks this summer at no cost to the unit.

The program will run from July 6 through Aug. 13. Students ages 14-21 will work 20 hours per week performing a wide variety of tasks across the university.

All costs, including salaries for the student employees, are funded through a federal program that promotes training and employment of youth residing in Buffalo.

Any departments interested in participating in the program, should click here, download and complete the 2010 Worksite Proposal, and return it no later than June 14 to University Human Resources, 120 Crofts Hall, North Campus. For further information, contact Jerry L. Linder at 645-4432 or linder@buffalo.edu.
