Andrew McConnell Stott, associate professor of English, has been named a 2010-11 fellow at the New York Public Library’s Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers. Stott is one of 14 “exceptional creative writers, independent scholars and academics” who will be in residence at the Cullman center from September through May 2011 pursuing book projects that make use of the library’s holdings. Stott, the a Mrs. Giles Whiting Foundation Fellow, will be working with the Pfrorzheimer Collection of Shelley and His Circle, writing a study of Romantic celebrity from the point of view of two people whose lives were irreversibly altered through their proximity with fame.
Dietrich Jehle, professor and vice chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine, has been selected to receive the prestigious Advancing Emergency Care Award for 2010 from the New York American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). The award, which recognizes Jehle for significant contributions in advancing emergency care in New York State in the areas of patient care, emergency medical services, education and research, will be presented to Jehle at New York ACEP’s annual meeting next month in Bolton Landing.
Mary Gresham, dean of the Graduate School of Education, was among those honored at Leadership Buffalo’s seventh annual Values Awards Luncheon. The luncheon is held to recognize individuals in the community who exhibit one or more core leadership values: diversity, openness to change, inclusion and service.
Anastasia K. Johnson, assistant to the chair of the Department of Anthropology, recently was elected president of the Buffalo Branch of the American Association of University Women. Among the other officers elected and installed at the group’s recent 2010 Achievement Award luncheon were Betty Preble, administrative aide in the Department of Learning and Instruction, second vice president, and Betty J. Krist, co-founder of UB’s Gifted Math Program, recording secretary.
Gunther Kohn, chief information officer for the School of Dental Medicine, received the Executive of the Year award from InfoTech Niagara, Western New York’s information technology association.
Nils Olsen, professor of law, has been elected chair of the Residents for Responsible Government advisory board.
Helen Domske, associate director of UB’s Great Lakes Program and coastal education specialist with New York Sea Grant, recently was named “Public Servant of the Year” by the Erie County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs.
