The green in front of Hayes Hall on the South Campus soon will be the setting for a mix of rock ‘n’ roll, big band, Afro-beat, reggae and more as UB on the Green—the university’s free outdoor performance series—opens its fourth season.

The family-friendly, music and dance performances will be held from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 25 and Sept. 1 and 8. The concerts are free.

Participants are encouraged to bring a picnic, lawn chairs and blankets. Light refreshments are available for sale. UB on the Green is an alcohol-free event.

In past years, UB on the Green performances had been held on Tuesday evenings during July and early August. But the Office of Community Relations, which co-sponsors UB on the Green with Student Affairs, decided to move the event to a later-in-the-summer schedule to enable more neighbors, students and university staff to attend.

The series will kick off on Aug. 25 with The Rockas and special guest Caitlin Albe Koch. The Rockas feature chunky horns with spicy riddims, topped with a blend of melodic and soulful vocals.

On Sept. 1, the first of two acts is N’Dias, a West-African inspired local dance and drumming group, to be followed by One World Tribe, an Afro-beat, funk, reggae, Latin and world-beat orchestra with a myriad of musicians, dancers and extras.

The finale on Sept. 8 will open with Scott Celani and his band offering a big, melodic pop sound. The second act will be Black Widow, one of Western New York’s top rock bands, delivering the best of rock, party, dance, country, alternative and the cream of the classics.
