  • Smoke-free guru to visit UB

    Ty Patterson, director of the Center of Excellence for Tobacco-Free Campus Policy, will visit UB Sept. 23-24 at the invitation of Wellness Education Services and is available to meet with departments and campus groups to discuss UB’s smoke-free policy.

    During 30-to-60-minute interactive meetings, Patterson, director of the Center of Excellence for Tobacco-Free Campus Policy, will facilitate discussion and answer questions on some of the issues surrounding a smoke-free campus.

  • UUP negotiations team to visit UB

    Members of United University Professions’ newly appointed Contract Negotiations Team will meet with members of UB’s Buffalo Center and Health Sciences chapters from 2-3 p.m. Sept. 28 in the Student Union Theater, North Campus.

    Among those attending with be chief negotiator Jamie Dangler, a member of the UUP statewide executive board and president of the Cortland UUP chapter, and associate chief negotiator Mike Smiles, also a statewide executive board member and executive board member of the Farmingdale UUP chapter.

    Members of the UUP negotiating team are traveling to all UUP chapters to meet with members about their concerns as UUP prepares to begin contract negotiations with the state. The current agreement between UUP, the union representing SUNY faculty and professional staff, and the state expires on July 1, 2011.

  • Pilates classes offered

    UB Faculty and staff can get into shape this fall with an eight-week Pilates course offered by the Wellness and Work/Life unit in University Human Resources.

    Classes for beginners will be held every Tuesday from Sept. 28 through Nov. 16 in the Clark Hall Cardio Room, South Campus; intermediate classes will be held every Thursday from Sept. 30 through Nov. 18 in the Alumni Arena Dance Studio, North Campus. Both classes begin at 6 p.m. and are taught by Anne D’Angelo

    Developed by Joseph Pilates, Pilates is a form of exercise that emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement.

    The fee for this series of eight classes is $50.
