  • Bra fundraiser benefits cancer research

“Creative brassieres” designed and fashioned by UB employees and members of the Western New York community currently are in display in the Center for the Arts, and members of the UB community are invited to bid on their favorite to raise money for breast cancer research.

The “artful bra” fundraiser benefits the American Cancer Society as part of the UB Employees Campaign for the Community. It is coordinated by Mary-Camille Schwindler, assistant registrar in Student Academic Records and Financial Services.

The bras will be on display through Oct. 29. They also may be viewed on the artful bra website.

Those interested in bidding can do so online.. Bidding will close at 5 p.m. Nov. 1.

  • Protect your identity

UB’s Financial Literacy Program is partnering with the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Credit Counseling Services and Shred-it to present Secure Your ID Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Tops Market at 3035 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst.

Members of the UB and greater Western New York communities can bring up to three boxes or bags of their sensitive paper documents for free shredding and proper disposal. CCCS and BBB staff will be on site to provide expert advice and tips for identity theft protection.

Identity theft strikes more than 10 million Americans every year, despite the fact that it can be easily avoided in many cases. Victims lose an average of $5,000 dollars and spend on average 600 hours recovering from an identity-theft incident. Proper document destruction is the first line of defense, event organizers say.
