  • Embarrassingly, I get taken in by “It’s a Wonderful Life.” It always catches me in the right frame of mind, and when it doesn’t, it somehow puts me in the right frame of mind. In terms of the worst experience, it’s no contest—anything by Kenny G.

  • Favorite holiday movie: “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”
Christmas music: Josh Grobin’s “Oh Holy Night.”
TV show: “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” It helps relieve the seasonal disease “Grinchitis” that sets in occasionally in December.
Worst list: Overdosing on old Christmas carols on the radio.

  • My favorite movie to watch during the holidays always ends up being “It’s a Wonderful Life,” even though there’s always a new telling of the birth of Christ that truly moves me. I’m also a big fan of “Amahl and the Night Visitors.” There are several episodes of the short-lived classic TV series “Frank’s Place” that reflect the generosity that epitomizes the Christmas season for me. Nat King Cole’s arrangement of “The Christmas Song” and anyone’s version of “Little Drummer Boy” comforts my soul. I love it when Muslims, Jews and Christians are all brought together in peaceful observances. There are some things that I think really cheapen the season’s meaning, but I don’t want to draw attention to them. I imagine they have meaning for other people.
