  • I offer three words of advice to graduating seniors: network, network, network. Utilize the Career Services Mentor Network of more than 500 professionals, who you can contact for advice about finding a job and being a successful new professional or graduate school student. Just go to ub-careers.buffalo.edu and log into your Bullseye account to search the mentor network.

  • Never be afraid to try something new. Keep an open mind. Expose yourself to as many different situations as possible. Discover what your passions are and follow them because you’ll look back in 10 years and be amazed at how quickly time went by. So don’t waste it on anything that leaves you unfulfilled.

  • Never give up. If you face a roadblock, try a detour. Eventually, you’ll get to where you are meant to be, even if it was not your intended path.

  • The words of American essayist and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson seem like fitting advice for this year’s graduates: “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” To my daughter, Kait (who is graduating from the School of Management) and to all our UB graduates: Be trailblazers, make a difference in all that you do, leave things better than you found them, enjoy what life has to offer and most of all, be content with your life’s work! I wish you all the best. Good luck and make UB proud!

  • You all have unique abilities and talents. You have the potential and opportunity to contribute to the world in your own way, and the world needs you! Always strive to contribute in whatever way you can. Take joy and pride in whatever you do. Relish the beauty of the world, the universe, the person next to you in line. Be open to new and different possibilities and never be afraid to face your fears.
