UB on the Green, the university’s free outdoor performance series, will open its sixth season on July 11 with a performance by the David Leonhardt Jazz Trio with the Shelley Oliver Tap Dancers.

The concert, as well as all other UB on the Green performances, will take place from 6-8 p.m. on the Hayes Hall Lawn, South Campus. Parking is available in the NFTA Park and Ride and Townsend lots.

Spectators are encouraged to bring a picnic, lawn chairs and blankets. Refreshments will be available for sale. UB on the Green is a family-friendly, alcohol-free event.

The David Leonhardt Jazz Trio, an internationally acclaimed ensemble featuring pianist David Leonhardt, plays mainstream and modern acoustic jazz, with creative improvisation. The Shelley Oliver Tap Dancers, directed by Canadian tap dancer Shelley Oliver, are noted for their lightning-speed footwork and rapid-fire taps, sophisticated musical arrangements, strong visual choreography, inventive improvisation, synchronized ensemble dancing and stunning solo work.

The series will continue on July 18 with an appearance by Healing Hands Drum Journey. This group features musicians from America and Africa providing a traditional and contemporary “journey” in sound that includes traditional drum music from Mali and Senegal, modern Congolese music (N’dombolo) and even Jamaican reggae.

The series will conclude on July 25 with a performance by the original jazz group Gruvology. This five-piece group mixes standard tunes with original compositions.
