Scholarship Gala set for success
UB’s seventh annual Scholarship Gala is on track for a record success.
The sold-out event—with the theme “One Person Makes a Difference”—will be held on Nov. 9 in the Edward Wright Practice Facility in Alumni Arena, North Campus, and includes dinner, dancing, student performances, and live and silent auctions.
Lois and Michael Cropp and Sharon and Mark Hamister are co-chairs of this year’s gala, and presenting sponsors are Independent Health and Verizon. Cropp, president and CEO of Independent Health, is a UB Foundation board trustee; Hamister, chair and CEO of The Hamister Group, is a UB Foundation board director.
Attracting the best and brightest students is one of the goals of UB 2020, the university’s strategic plan to become a model 21st-century public university. Scholarships are one of the most effective ways to guarantee that top students choose UB.
To date, UB has raised more than $1 million in scholarship funds through six gala events. Donor support—by corporations, foundations and individuals—helps to ensure that every promising student has the opportunity to pursue a first-rate education at UB.
Everyone can make a difference for UB by purchasing raffle tickets for chances to win a one-week “vacation to paradise,” a getaway for up to six guests to the location of the winner’s choice; options include Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean and several other destinations.
Visit the UB Scholarship Gala website for details and to purchase tickets. The winning ticket will be announced at the Nov. 9 event.
Those who attend the auction may browse online this week on numerous silent auction items, including artwork, getaway weekends, autographed sports items, entertainment packages and children’s items.
One package features President Satish Tripathi and his wife, Kamlesh, hosting a unique Chef’s Table experience for eight individuals. The couple will treat the winner to an Indian dinner, complete with cooking tips and conversation.
