Charles Bernstein, David Gray Professor of Poetry and Letters at UB and the author of 22 books of poetry and critical essays, is one of 116 artists statewide to receive a 1995 Artists' Fellowship from the New York State Foundation for the Arts this year. The fellowship carries a $7,000 cash award.

Fellows are selected by peer panels of artists active in the same discipline and receive grants to advance their careers in any way they consider appropriate. One aspect of the fellowship is its public service requirement. Five hundred dollars from each grant is set aside to help support a public service activity by each fellow through the Foundation's "Artists & Audiences" program.
