Judy Scales-Trent will discuss what "race" really means in America and
her experiences of being rejected by the white community because of race
and by the black community because of color in a "UB at SUNRISE"
breakfast program to be held from 7:30-9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, in the
Center for Tomorrow on the North Campus. "Notes of a White Black Woman," also the title of her new book, will be the topic of Scales-Trent, a UB professor of law. A light-skinned black woman, Scales-Trent explores in her book what it is like to live simultaneously inside and outside of both black and white communities in the no-man's land that has both defined and challenged her. "UB at SUNRISE" is produced by the UB Alumni Association and UB's Office of Conferences and Special Events, News Bureau and Office of Publications. It also is supported by the Office of University Development and the Office for Public Service and Urban Affairs. Price of the program, which includes a full breakfast, is $9 for UB Alumni Association members and $10 for all others. For more information, contact the Alumni Association at 829-2608. Ticket orders must be received by Monday, Sept. 18.
