Nancy Ritz Michalko named associate vice president for development

Nancy Ritz Michalko has been named associate vice president for university development at UB. Michalko joined the university in January 1994 as senior director of special, annual and regional giving.

Ronald H. Stein, vice president for university advancement and development, noted that as senior director of development, Michalko "has provided exceptional leadership to the university's special, annual and regional gift programs.

"Under her direction," he added, "gifts through the annual appeal increased substantially by almost 70 percent. As creator and founder of the special and regional gift programs, she put in place concepts and systems that have enabled development operations to successfully identify, cultivate and solicit major gift prospects throughout the nation."

Prior to joining UB, Michalko was a vice president with Ruffalo, Cody & Associates, Inc., of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a nationally prominent fund-raising consulting and telemarketing firm, where she was responsible for designing successful annual and capital-campaign programs for colleges, universities and hospitals. Her clients included Columbia University, Yale University, The Catholic University of America, Howard University and City College of New York, among others.

Before joining Ruffalo, Cody, Michalko was director of development for the Yale University Graduate School of Forestry and Environmental Studies in New Haven, Conn., and assistant director of annual giving for the West Virginia University Foundation in Morgantown, W. Va.

Michalko has a bachelor's degree in public relations from Wheeling Jesuit College in Wheeling, W. Va.
