Help newcomers to America practice speaking English

TO THE EDITOR:

I would once again like to invite members of the UB community to help new emigres from the former Soviet Union practice their English.

People of all ages are still coming to Buffalo every month. Many have studied English before and are studying it now, but they all have difficulty understanding the spoken language and need practice in conversational English in order to get jobs and participate in American life.

If you like people, have your own transportation and can spare about an hour of week (plus travel time), the Jewish Family Service of Greater Buffalo will match you up with an individual or family and give you an orientation on how to begin.

If you are interested, please call Julie Lewitsky at 883-1914 Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Ms. Lewitsky has told me that some of her best volunteers have come from UB, and she is very eager to hear from you.

Sincerely yours,

EMILY TALL
