NANCY H. NIELSEN, a Buffalo physician, has resigned from the State
University of New York Board of Trustees. Nielsen's term expired June 30,
but she had continued as a trustee to help the board with cost-saving
efforts for SUNY. Nielsen, 53, received her medical degree from the UB medical school. "I have been honored to be able to give something back to my state in return for the advantages which public higher education has given me," she wrote in her letter of resignation to Gov. Pataki. Nielsen, the only Republican appointed by former Gov. Cuomo in 1990, noted that she has been given an enlarged role at the New York State Health Department and is now chief medical officer for the WNY area office. She is also president-elect of the medical staff at The Buffalo General Hospital in addition to maintaining a private practice of internal medicine.
