CONTINUING EXHIBITS

Architecture studio work

Senior architecture students of Millard Fillmore College are showing an exhibit of studio work, "Channel Z," through Feb. 5 in the college's Drewdora Gallery, 144 Parker Hall, South Campus. Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m.- 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Topped by fish tanks

"Dumping Sight: Landscape/Landscope," an exhibit by Satoru Takahashi, is the exhibit through March 22 in the University Art Gallery, Center for the Arts, North Campus. The exhibit is "a complex architectural-sculptural work consisting of two separate revolving doors made of reflective glass with fish tanks as ceilings." Takahashi is a Japanese artist living in New York City. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 10:30 a.m.-8 p.m., and Sunday, 12-5 p.m. Admission is free.

Fresh paint

New paintings and drawings by Walter Prochownik are on view through Feb. 13 in the Art Department Gallery located in the Center for the Arts, North Campus. The show is presented on the occasion of Prochownik's retirement from the UB Dept. of Art. An opening reception is scheduled Jan. 25, 5-8 p.m. Gallery hours are Tuesday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; and Saturday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Admission is free.

Child-Care Openings Available

The University at Buffalo Child Care Center Inc., located in Butler Annex A, South Campus, is accepting applications for its early child-care programs serving children ages six weeks to five years. Open 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, the program is open to UB students, staff and faculty, with tuition fees based on a sliding scale. The center is licensed by the New York State Department of Social Services and accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. For more information, call 829-2226.

Commencement Reminder

All degree candidates planning to complete a June 1, 1996 degree must file an "Application for Degree" (degree card) with the Office of Records and Registration at 232 Capen or Hayes B prior to Feb. 1, 1996. Ceremonies for June 1996 degrees as well as September 1995 and February 1996 are scheduled for May 17-19.

Craft Workshops Begin

The Creative Craft Center, 120 Fillmore in the Ellicott Complex on UB's North Campus, is offering Early Spring '96 Craft Workshops beginning the week of Jan. 29. Workshops are scheduled in textile design, knitting and crocheting, weaving, quilting, Brazilian embroidery, greeting card design, photography (basic, color, advanced color and creative), camera use and operation, basic and intermediate pottery, jewelry construction, beginning and advanced stained glass, pottery for children and multimedia for children. All workshops run 7-10 p.m. one night a week for six weeks; children's classes run on Saturday morning. Fees are $30 and $50. For more information, call 645-6125 or 645-2434.

Financial Aid Workshop

The New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association and the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation will hold a workshop on completing the Free Federal Financial Aid Student Form (FAFSA) will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25 (snow date Feb. 6) at Daemen College's Wick Center.

Faculty are reminded that Reserve Lists for the 1996 spring semester are now due. Forms are available at all Reserve Desks of the University Libraries.

RA Informational Sessions

The University Residence Halls will hold informational session Jan. 28-31 for students interested in becoming Resident Advisors for the 1996-97 academic year. All interested students must attend one of the following sessions to get an application: 10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, Lehman Hall TV lounge; 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 271 Richmond Quadrangle, Building #5; 10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, Clement Hall Main Lounge; Noon Wednesday, Jan. 31, 145 Student Union; 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 262 Fargo Quadrangle, Building #6. Candidates should have good leadership qualities and be dependable, responsible and trustworthy. Non-traditional, physically challenged and ethnic minority students are especially encouraged to apply.

Tour WBFO

Interested in learning more about UB's public radio station? Join the WBFO staff Noon-1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22 in Allen Hall for a presentation, followed by a tour of the station facilities. Participants will have an opportunity to make an audio recording of a station announcement. Space is limited to 20 people. Call 829-6000 before Feb. 16 to reserve a place.
